Place Blueboxes

It is good practice to switch each Bluebox on before it leaves for its control. Place it next to the SI station as described below.

Place the Bluebox within 2 m of the SI station and at about the same height. A Bluebox receives a punch from up to 2 m away.

At run-through controls, such as sprint controls and the last control, runners punch contactless with SIAC cards and keep running. The punch reaches the Bluebox from the runner’s SIAC card as they pass, not from the SI station.

  • Place the Bluebox behind the control, where the runner is one second after punching.
  • Make sure the runners’ path passes within the Bluebox’s range. How you guide them past it is up to you.
  • At the finish, put the two finish controls on the finish line and one Bluebox between them, 1 m behind the line.

At EYOC 2025, the Bluebox sat on an upright board a few meters behind a run-through control, and barriers kept the runners’ line close to it.

No punches arrive from the control: the Bluebox is switched off or too far from the SI station. Switch it on and place it as described in At a forest control. If punches still do not arrive, check the device in Check the status table on the Monitor online controls on race day page.
